Creating an Apple ID for your child allows them to enjoy Apple services like iCloud, FaceTime, and the App Store—while giving parents full control over privacy, screen time, and content access. Apple lets you create a child account (for users under 13, or the age threshold in your country) through Family Sharing. To do this, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Family Sharing > Add Member > Create Child Account. Follow the prompts to enter the child’s name, birth date, and create an Apple ID for them using your Apple ID as a parent or guardian.

Once the child’s Apple ID is set up, you can manage their account with powerful parental controls. These include Screen Time settings to monitor and limit device use, Ask to Buy to approve or deny purchases, and content restrictions to filter out explicit material in apps, music, and web browsing. The child’s location can also be tracked through Find My, providing an added layer of safety. Importantly, the account remains part of your Family Sharing group, meaning you can share purchases and subscriptions while maintaining oversight.

This setup ensures children can safely use their Apple devices while giving parents confidence and tools to guide their digital experiences. As they grow, settings can be adjusted to offer more independence while still protecting their privacy and well-being.
