Obesity is a medical condition characterized by an excessive accumulation of body fat to such an extent that it may have adverse effects on a persons health. It’s typically determined by calculating a person’s body mass index (BMI), which is a measure of weight in relation to their height. A BMI of 30 or more is generally considered to be obese.

Obesity is a result of a combination of genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors like a unhealthy diet, a lack of exercise, genetics, metabolism, and their socioeconomic status. It's not merely a cosmetic concern but a complex medical issue that increases the risk of some health problems, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, certain cancers, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis.

Treating obesity often involves lifestyle modification like adopting a healthier diet, exercising more, and behavior changes. In some cases, medications or weight loss surgery might be recommended, especially when their poses serious health risks. However, intervention through healthy lifestyle changes remain the best approach.

Diet changes are important. Adopting a healthier eating plan is crucial for weight loss. Regular exercise is important. Increasing physical activity levels is essential for burning off calories and improving overall health. You should aim for at least 150 minutes of {moderate-intensity|moderate{ aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise every week, along with muscle-strengthening exercises on two or more days every week.
